Project : Les Mouettes, La Grande Route des Sablons, Grouville
Design Proposal :
This costal site located within the ‘Shoreline Zone’ enjoys views over Grouville Bay towards Gorey and has direct access to the costal promenade. Our brief for this project was driven by our client’s desire to demolish the existing building and provide two additional dwellings that took advantage of the sites location, views etc.
From the outset our client’s brief for the project was for a highly insulated, thermally efficient contemporary development and they were highly motivated to ensure the development delivers high quality, sustainable buildings, low energy consumption dwellings.
Whilst acknowledging the benefits of a system build approach, our clients were keen to avoid a system build, which imposed a particular style of design and following much research they settled on a system provided by a German company ‘Baufritz’, who provide a factory built timber frame building, albeit with a highly advanced approach to health, ecology, quality innovation and security.
Our initial sketch designs and subsequent design strategy proposed an elemental approach to the external design with split roofs and stepped levels, which we have used on a number of previous projects and which suited the concepts and strategies utilized by ‘Baufritz’. The choice of materials reinforces the concept of the different elements, whilst fulfilling the client’s requirements for two contemporary homes.
The client intends to retain one of the dwellings as their retirement home, the other being put on the market for sale.
